Get the Right Labels to Show Off Your Tea Products

Having the right type of packaging and labels for your packaged tea product is vital for success. But what are some of the essential elements of tea labels? Here are several you should consider carefully as you design your labels for production.

Versatile sizes

Whether you prefer wrap-around labels for tins, large rectangular labels covering the front of pouches or intricate tea boxes that feature several different labels on all sides, the options are nearly endless. Choosing a size that best fits your packaging shouldn’t be an issue, but you’ll want to make sure all the important product details are visible and that your branding is exactly what you want it to be.

Beautiful fonts and typeface settings

Labels for your packaged tea products can also feature a variety of gorgeous fonts and typeface settings to achieve the look you’re after. However, you’ll want to make sure your brand name and all other details are easy to read, so it’s advised that you don’t choose more than two different fonts when creating your labels.

Striking illustrations and images

When it comes to tea packaging, your labels can include images and illustrations that conjure feelings of comfort, further adding to the description of each type of plant or tea. Or, you can stick with one particular label image that defines your brand. Either way, a striking image is a great way to make your labels and product stand out from competitors.

A variety of materials

Labels for your packaged tea products can be made with several different materials, depending on your packaging needs. For example, if your package is opaque or plain, you might choose an elaborate label design printed on a white label with many vivid colors to brighten it up. Or, you may choose a clear label to let the tea leaves show through. You can also coat your labels with a gloss or matte-over laminate as a final finishing touch to keep them shiny. Regardless, we always recommend BOPP labels made from long-wearing plastic film and are waterproof, smudge-free, and heat-resistant.

What Happens If Dirt Gets on Your Adhesive Labels Before Shipping Your Products?

Dirt can find its way onto your adhesive labels in many different ways: through direct contact with fingers, a dirty storage environment, or by adhering to packaging materials that are coated in dirt.

Regardless of how the dirt comes into contact with adhesive labels, the result is never good. It’s very difficult (if not impossible) to use a label once it’s come into contact with dirt.

Label Solutions explains what to do if this happens to you.

How Does Dirt Affect the Application of Adhesive Labels?

If your label gets dirty during the application process or it is placed on a package that is coated in dirt, the label will have a hard time sticking to the textured surface. Essentially, texture reduces the surface area available for the label to stick to, leaving gaps that may appear bumpy and unprofessional from the customer’s point of view.

In short, dirt will ruin your labels. Once they’re affected, they won’t adhere correctly and they are likely to peel. This will make your product look less attractive over time.

What to Do If Dirt Gets On Your Labels

If dirt gets onto the front side of your labels, you may be able to wipe it off with little difficulty. However, if it touches the adhesive side of your labels, they will be impossible to clean thoroughly. You will need to dispose of the labels and replace them.

How to Prevent Contamination With Dirt

Here’s the bottom line: Once your labels are contaminated with dirt, they won’t stay stuck. You’ll need to replace the dirty labels before shipping the product off to any customers or you’ll risk damaging your brand reputation.

However, there is some good news! There are ways to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Primarily, it comes down to proper storage and maintaining a clean packaging environment.

  • Store adhesive labels inside an airtight plastic bag or container.
  • Keep labels off the ground by storing them on shelves.
  • Regularly clean your packaging/labeling environment to prevent dust and dirt buildup on surfaces.
  • Avoid touching the adhesive when applying labels manually.

How to Fix Common Problems With Your Adhesive Label Applicator

Excessive downtime spent troubleshooting production issues can cut into your profit and hinder your productivity. To help you get back up and running faster, here are some of the most common problems companies face with adhesive label applicators, and most importantly, how to solve them.

Problem #1: The label material has excessive die strikes.

Die strikes are one of the most common problems with automatic label application. A die strike is a specific part of the label production process that must be done correctly by the label manufacturer. Otherwise, you might end up with labels that don’t properly separate from the liner. It’s caused by adhesive (from the back of the label) getting into the lining.

Although all labels have die strikes, excessive die strikes are a quality control issue, and they will cause issues with automatic application. For example, the labels may not completely peel off the liner or they may jam the adhesive label applicator.

The solution: If your labels have excessive die strikes, you should consult with the label supplier. The supplier will need to correct their label production process to prevent these issues from occurring.

Problem #2: The label liner is peeling or curling.

If your liners are behaving like this and are refusing to cooperate with your adhesive label applicator, high temperatures and humidity might be the problem. If your production environment is very humid, your label liners may expand or curl, which can cause jams.

The solution: Store your labels in airtight plastic bags and on low shelves in your production facility (high shelves will be much warmer). You should also store your labels standing up with the hole facing vertically or hang them on a rack. This will keep the labels from sliding on the liner.

Problem #3: Loose or wrinkling labels.

If your labels are applying smoothly, it may not be an issue with your adhesive label applicator. Instead, it is likely a problem with your container. Very small irregularities in your containers could be the cause of your labels not sticking properly due to an inconsistent shape.

The solution: You may need to shop for a new container supplier that provides higher-quality packaging. You may also want to talk to your label supplier to ensure that you’re purchasing the right type of label materials for your packaging.

What Are Harsh Environment Labels and When Should You Use Them?

If there’s a label on a product, more than likely it’s there for a reason. It can alert of dangers like ingestion, inhalation and issues associated when mixing with other substances. It can direct us on how and when to use properly and what happens if used incorrectly.

Harsh weather conditions like rain, snow and prolonged exposure to the sun can make product or equipment labels fade, peel and crack. When it comes time to use your item, you may be unable to read the ingredients or instructions. This can lead to dangerous exposure or misuse. In today’s blog post from Label Solutions, we will explore the reasons why harsh environment labels are needed and how they are applied.

Temperatures

If you work in extreme temperatures, subzero to below 30 degrees, labels can take a beating. If the right adhesive isn’t applied, the label won’t adhere to the product. If the correct label and adhesive isn’t used, the label can break down faster. In either case, the likelihood of the label not keeping its integrity is reduced. When this happens, the chance of choosing the wrong product for the wrong application can be dangerous, even deadly. The same can be said for equipment warnings and mishandling.

Label Solutions has been working with industry professionals for years  to understand the issues equipment and products go through under extreme or harsh conditions and alleviate the chance of misuse. We have developed labels proven to withstand even the harshest of conditions.

The Right Adhesive

One defense against labels falling or peeling off is using the correct adhesive. This is true when using abrasive chemical compounds, but also when using in harsh environments where moisture can be the number one culprit to label breakdown.

Warning labels in medical or industrial industries may need a stronger adhesive than a food label. Label Solutions offers two different kinds of labels for some harsh environments with strong adhesives. We refer to them as white BOPP and clear BOPP.

White BOPP is a white polypropylene film that has been proven not only to resist moisture, but also endure extreme conditions. Adhesives can stick to many different surfaces.

Clear BOPP goes on and stays clear. Like white BOPP labels, they adhere well to many different services and carry a strong resistance to moisture and extreme conditions. Clear BOPP labels show the surface behind it.

Which you choose depends upon the overall look you need. If you’re unsure, contact the label specialists at Label Solutions.

Choosing a Label for Your Needs

Once you’ve identified what kind of label you need for your harsh environment, the next step is choosing how you want them to be printed.

Label Solutions offers three types of labels. They come in rolls or single sheets and can be made with either the white or clear BOPP.

Our labels not only reduce human error when applying, but because of their proven endurance in harsh or extreme environments, they will last longer than traditional labels.
